Two clinical cases of renal syndrome caused by Dobrava/Saaremaa hantaviruses imported to the Netherlands from Poland and Belarus, 2012–2014
We report the rare event of two imported cases in the Netherlands presenting with renal syndrome caused by Dobrava (DOBV)/Saaremaa (SAAV) hantaviruses. DOBV/SAAV hantaviruses are not circulating in the Netherlands and their clinical manifestation is typically more severe than that of the endemic Puumala virus (PUUV). This report aims to increase awareness among healthcare professionals and diag...
متن کاملCharacterization of Hemorrhagic Fever with Renal Syndrome Caused by Hantaviruses, Estonia
Thirty cases of hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome (HFRS) due to Puumala virus (PUUV), Saaremaa virus (SAAV), and Dobrava virus infection were confirmed in Estonia. Except for the levels of serum creatinine, no remarkable differences were found in the clinical course of HFRS caused by PUUV and SAAV.
متن کاملGenetic interaction between Dobrava and Saaremaa hantaviruses: now or millions of years ago?
In their paper (3), Klempa and coauthors reported results on (phylo)genetic analyses of hantaviruses occurring in two species of Apodemus mice, Dobrava virus (DOBV)-Af (from DOBV associated with A. flavicollis) and DOBV-Aa (associated with A. agrarius), and concluded that “DOBV-Af and DOBV-Aa are distinct but also subject to genetic exchanges that affect their evolutionary trajectories.” From t...
متن کاملHantaviruses in Serbia and Montenegro
Hantaviruses are endemic in the Balkan Peninsula. An outbreak of hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome occurred in 2002 in Serbia and Montenegro. The epidemiologic characteristics and genetic relatedness of Dobrava/Belgrade virus strains responsible for most cases are described.
متن کاملPhylogeographic Diversity of Pathogenic and Non-Pathogenic Hantaviruses in Slovenia
Slovenia is a very diverse country from a natural geography point of view, with many different habitats within a relatively small area, in addition to major geological and climatic differences. It is therefore not surprising that several small mammal species have been confirmed to harbour hantaviruses: A. flavicollis (Dobrava virus), A. agrarius (Dobrava virus-Kurkino), M. glareolus (Puumala vi...
